FX series The Most Dangerous Animal Of All (the topic of The Blotter Presents Ep 135) is the latest proof that a crackpot true-crime theory can be a ticket to arguable fame and fortune. Let’s all get rich and/or notorious by churning out some more. What true-crime cockamaminess is a grassy knoll you’d be willing to, uh, die on?
The most commonly-held crackpot theory these days seems to be the damn owl (Kathleen Peterson) which I cannot abide. My favorite is the mystery of what happened to the Sodder siblings in Fayetteville, West Virginia. The family home burned down in December 1945 but the bodies of five of the nine kids were never found. Were they kidnapped?
That Kirk Douglas did rape Natalie Wood and / or killed Jean Spangler and he just lasted long enough and was rich enough (between him and Michael, who has been enormously successful as a producer as well as actor) there was enough power to cover it up. I know after his death the rumours got another airing and the fact that no one verified from Wood's family is considered vindication, but the guy has such a shady past...
I don’t know if I’d say favorite, but anything related to Maura Murray is something I find the most infuriating.
