On the anniversary of the Kennedy assassination (well…A Kennedy assassination; sigh), let’s recommend our pet related properties! I was glad Eve surfaced the Manchester in today’s newsletter, and I’m also going to note (for the frillionth time) Bonar Menninger’s Mortal Error, which was finally the theory that “stuck” as far as I was concerned.
Got a pet JFK property to share? A little-known article you think of often? We’re also accepting properties you despised/thought were irresponsible. See you in the comments!
My nominee for worst/most irresponsible is “JFK: An American Coup D'etat,” by some purported British intelligence officer, which holds that LBJ was in cahoots with the mafia, the National Security state, and probably the Flat Earthers to kill Kennedy. It’s every conspiracy theory- including Marilyn Monroe- in a blender, and, worse, the argument is 1) can’t be one bullet, 2) it’s not clear who did it, so 3) it’s impossible to know who did it, so let’s explain why it would have been any/all of them. Irresponsible, and not even entertaining in the “this is a nutty theory that they’re running with” way that many of the books in this genre can be.
