You may be interested in the YouTube series "Catfished" which leans heavily into the 50+ year old marks and Nigerian online scams. The hosts are gently, but firmly, concerned for the marks and are really trying to help these people realize how the scam works without being too judgemental.

You'll never believe how many older women think that Johnny Depp is both in love with them and in dire need of money.

I’ve never watched a single episode of that show - can you believe it? 90 Day Fiancé contains more than enough catfishing and disbelieving marks for me. FWIW, you are the only people who have recognized that “Dirty John” was also in part about an aging woman’s longing to be seen as desirable - that’s part of why she was a perfect target for John. And no, “Hamish” isn’t the best Aussie love-fraud pod: check out “Snowball”!!

I went through a phase of listening to the Catfish podcast back in 2020. (What can I say? 2020 was traumatic.) I came away feeling that a fairly large proportion of the stories are fake nowadays--people who want to be TV, no matter how, I guess?

Regarding where those rotisserie ovens go… the Chicago municipal grocery store should buy one. Some worker co-op model fast casual restaurants, maybe? We just need a funding model that isn’t venture capital…
