I’m watching Exhibit A right now and I totally get what Jeb means about wanting to up the speed. I feel like it’s either trying too hard to be “prestige true crime” or it’s far too aware that it’s prestige true crime. But Sarah is right about the sugar-free talking heads. In the cadaver dog episode, I loved the detective who was righteously indignant that “the dog had more credibility than [her]” and also the mom who said she won’t give up hope that her daughter’s alive because “a dog barked” (the “f***ing” before dog is heavily implied). And Sarah’s also right that the first installment is the least compelling and worst-paced. But it’s absolutely infuriating that these cases never get overturned and these people never get exonerated. I don’t know if it’s just the editing that makes the convictions seem so obviously specious, and maybe there’s more nuance than the production let’s on, but I can’t believe there are no chyrons at the end saying that these convicts have been exonerated or are getting new trials or winning appeals.
