It’s a podcast rather than a documentary, but another good cult-adjacent property is Wondery’s Guru, about a self-help “guru,” who gained his popularity from appearing on Oprah and The Secret movie, who cooked 3 of his acolytes to death in an unsanctioned “sweat lodge” heat-endurance trial. It’s not a cult, per se, but there’s definitely plenty of NXIVM-esque coercive control disguised as “personal growth” involved.

The Real Crime Profile does an extremely deep dive on Guru as well, although I was pretty offended at the use of a Monty Python Life of Brian quote and clip to set up the premise in their first episode on it. Their analysis is on point, though.
