Not that there's a bad time to read it, but it feels serendipitous that this morning, on the anniversary of George Floyd's murder, I finished reading Claudia Rankine's lauded masterpiece, Citizen: An American Lyric. It was devastating, and I only regret that it took me so long to pick it up.
I just finished James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. It could have been written yesterday (other than references to Bobby Kennedy, etc.). Also, listening to The Nostalgia Trap’s “The Defund Moment w Alex Vitale” episode from May 15th I think-really good.
On the North Korea topic, I watched the documentary Assassins the other night and recommend. I knew the basics of the story but hadn't followed the conclusion and it was very surprising and moving really.
