I got familiar with the Kasem situation via my Britney standom (see avatar) as it was the other high profile misuse of conservatorship case in California that showed up related issues. This was several.hundred internet years ago so it will be interesting to see what's happened since.
During my first and last trip to Crime Con (New Orleans, ‘19) I embarrassingly practically chased Dr. Chatelain down a hall to meet her. I grew to greatly admire her for her part in commenting on the Freddie Grey case in that season of the Undisclosed Podcast. I was more excited about meeting her than anyone else at Crime Con outside the Undisclosed team. Full disclosure, I’m a transcriber for Undisclosed so Rabia was able to assure her I’m not a total lunatic.
She was as gracious as you can imagine and just adds so much intelligence and insight to any topic she addresses.
Reality Life with Kate Casey (I know) had an interview with Kerri Kasem and producer Aliza Rozen last week, so I downloaded the trailer and am looking forward to the podcast. Obviously it will have a slant, but I have a personal interest in crazy behaviors of second wives (no bias here!) so bring it on. I also feel as if I’m doing little but following Susan around on Goodreads - I see no reason to stop now. The CBS Murders? Why, as soon as I finish The Officer’s Daughter. Mexican Gothic is just gonna have to wait.
OMG! That Tampa Bay one is brutal. I previously worked in research and so know a little about the kinds of things they are trying to do but the first thing they teach in statistics is " Correlation does NOT equal causation!" The book Weapons of Math Destruction is a really good read -- does a good job of explaining the math and science in a not too technical way. Definitely crime-adjacent at least since now much of the systemic racism is hiding behind algorithms.
