“ the college-caf lunch tables where I could win an argument about Jimmy Key and not feel like I might get punched in the face after.”
I was on a comics panel at a regional Popular Culture Association conference in 2011 to give a paper about Superman origin stories where I was the only woman on the panel and possibly in the room, and I legit thought I was going to be assaulted afterwards. It was the most toxic atmosphere I’ve ever been in. (And I was on a ‘masculinity in Supernatural’ panel at another PCA conference where the first question was “What makes you women think you know anything about masculinity?”) The only good thing I can say about it is that it made a great story to tell Dean Cain when I met him 2 years later (before he was awful).
The Lipstick Killer murders are some more that Steve Hodel alleges were actually committed by his father. I certainly don't think George Hodel did it, but I remember my last reading about Heirens made me seriously doubt his guilt.
Off to read the linked piece and see if it sways me back the other way.
