I read and enjoyed City of Fallen Angels and made a point of ditching my family for a couple of hours in my one trip to Venice a few years ago to seek out and tour the opera house. It really is pretty unremarkable in context of all the beauties of Venice, but it was a worthwhile true crime pilgrimage for me.
