At this point, do we really blame ANYONE for not calling the police for help?

I adore Naveen Andrews, because DUH, but I really don’t want him to make me like—or even feel sympathy for—Sunny Balwani, who is a garbage person. I’m not surprised that she’s claiming the relationship was abusive, because his relationships with literally *everybody* were abusive, but I think her expert witness is gonna have a tough row to hoe.

I DID watch WDYKM last night and I’m here to say that it is incredibly affecting. Literally no one “won” in this case. Of course, convictions can’t resurrect a dead person, and you see the impact of a jail sentence up and down a family. I absolutely laud the police officer who worked patiently to earn the trust of the family, and who appeared to understand the inevitable gang affiliations without demonizing the kids in those gangs (too much). Man, no one had a chance in that neighborhood. This is not a feel-good story by any means, but it was life, with good and bad people - and some remarkable growth by the mother. I thought she ended up being the silver lining, as far as that goes. Definitely watch this one. It is not our standard crime fare.

I watched the documentary tonight and the scene where the mom talks about deciding against asking for the death penalty was genuinely moving. She’d come off as somewhat ridiculous prior to that and it really brought home that the entire situation is tragic on all sides for so many reasons.
